Radar shows some more moisture downstream from us today which will add a couple more inches to the fluff we receives last night. This pattern of light snow, moderate winds and cool temperatures will continue into the weekend when we should see more clearing and sunny skies.

A weak stream of moisture has moved into the area overnight bringing clouds, slightly warmer temperatures and will be the precursor to snow beginning in earnest sometime tomorrow.
While we have moisture overhead, we also have warmer air aloft and not much lift or forcing to create snow today or tonight, but maybe we can squeeze out some flakes. Winds remain light to moderate from the West, but strong enough to keep moving snow around up high. The clouds will increase warming today, but we will have less sun so overall it will still feel cold.

After a big storm, this weekend with continued light snowfall Sunday and Monday, snowfall will finally taper off during the first half of the day today as a drier airmass will force its way into the area. Air temperatures are chilly this morning but will recover slowly to the teens for most mountain locations. Conditions will dry out today, but Wednesday will be transitional as out next system impacts the area on Thursday and continues through the weekend.

A low-pressure trough is slowly creeping across Colorado today and into tonight. This trough will keep the snow production going but with modest accumulations through tonight. Orographic snowfall from westerly winds could bump snow totals up in locations along the Ruby Range. Air temperatures will remain below seasonal averages. The next approaching storm will begin to impact Colorado on Thursday.

After a frigid night with temperatures single digits in the alpine, and single digits below zero in the valleys, high clouds have begun to stream in ahead of a moisture starved shortwave working across southern Utah. This storm will be more of a snowmaker for the San Juans, but we should see light accumulations late this afternoon and tonight. Light to moderate westerly winds will increase ahead of this disturbance near and above treeline, and temperatures will stay cold for the next few days. The active storm pattern will continue into next week.

The Crested Butte area is currently sitting under a northwest flow with cold air sagging towards us. Snowshowers will continue through midday, but will largely be concentrated along the Ruby Range. Some showers may push into interior parts of the range near town. Winds will be moderate today with the potential for snow transport. Expect temperatures to cool down for today and Sunday. The next disturbance will push into the area on Sunday from the southwest.

A low-pressure system is currently moving across Utah and pulling moisture into Colorado on southwest flow. Snow began early this morning in the San Juan mountains and is a bit behind schedule in general. So the mountains around Crested Butte didn’t really pick up any new snow overnight as forecasted. The Kebler Pass area should see snow this morning, while our greater forecast area may have to wait until midday or early afternoon to see that snow develop. As the low-pressure trough passes to our south today, winds will become west to northwest this afternoon. That’s when snow showers should intensify. Light snow will continue for a good bit of Saturday. We are in a cooling trend heading into the weekend, with the cold area really settling in by Sunday.

The last 24hr has gotten the ball rolling with more snow than expected. We should continue to see more snow accumulation during the early morning hours of Thursday, then generally taper off for most of the day. An approaching low-pressure system will put us into southwest flow going into Thursday night as we see snow showers turn back on and continue into Friday.

Unsettled weather will take us into the weekend with more snow in the forecast. Where exactly Saturday’s storm is going is still looking variable. So let’s just say we’ll continue to see more snow into the weekend but save the details for the weekend. By Sunday the jet stream is going to be sagging south of Colorado, opening the door for cold and below average temperatures to take us into next week.

Clouds built overnight and maybe a flake or two fell from the sky. A zonal (westerly) flow today will allow moisture to begin making its way to the Elk Mountains, though we will see more wind than snow during the day today. Snowfall will increase tonight and tomorrow looks like a good hit. This will continue into the weekend, though the models are having a tough time finding consensus beyond Friday. Temperatures will be moderate as warmer air is pulled in and cloud cover keeps it in.

And just like that we have another weather system moving into the area today. We will start off today with sunny skies but can expect increasing clouds throughout the day and maybe a flurry or two this afternoon. The flow will shift more zonal (from the west) overnight and we will see snow begin after dark tonight. Accumulations will be light until Thursday at which time we can expect to see the flakes pile up some more. Details are still a bit sketchy, but an active weather patter will persist into the weekend and we should see a foot or so of fresh in the mountains by the end of the weekend.
