Snowpack: The northern half of the compass has continuous snow coverage at all elevations. We know the snow there is weak and faceted. Coverage continues around the southern half of the compass above treeline, except for the shallowest areas or wind-eroded slopes on the southwest quadrant. Below treeline, most slopes have melted out on SE, S, SW aspects. The sunnier halves of W and E have some melted-out slopes as well, especially in the shallower parts of the forecast area. A few example photos below. All photos are here.
- South side of Bellview. The lower elevations and previously wind scoured slopes are bare.
- The east facing side of Coney’s and Mineral Point.
- South side of Gothic is mostly bare, whereas the south side of Baldy is snow covered because it’s in the favored snow belt.
- East facing side of Peanut Lake Road and Happy Chutes. The terrain features with a due east tilt have some bare ground, anything north of east has old weak snow.
- The west facing terrain in the Ruby Range has fairly continuous coverage
- Dramatic difference between NE and SE on Schuylkill Ridge and Peeler Peak.
- Patchy coverage on east facing terrain near Meridian Lake.
