Unsettled weather is making its way through the area today and tomorrow with little kicks of energy spurting out here and there. Increasing clouds today may produce some very light snow flurries toward the end of the day with a stronger pulse and colder temperatures coming in Saturday afternoon. Temperatures will rise above the freezing mark today and it will feel warmer with some sun and greenhouse effect. Snow totals will be minimal through the weekend and unsettled weather will continue into next week.

Today we will see clearing skies and cool temperatures as a quick ridge of high pressure moves into the area. Some lingering snow showers are possible over the Ruby Range and Paradise Divide areas, but accumulations will be minimal and there will be more sun closer to town and to the Eastern side of the area. Clouds will again increase this afternoon and tonight ahead of another passing trough. Expect to see intermittent snow showers again on Friday and Saturday and a clearing trend as we head into next week.

A trough will be passing over Colorado today bringing southwest flow. Radar returns are showing a modest stream of moisture pushing into the area early this morning. Snow showers and gusty winds will be the name of the game during the day. There is the potential during the middle of the day and evening for a few stronger showers to move through dropping heavier precipitation for short periods of time. Accumulations still look modest for today, around 5 inches for locations to the west and north of town at higher elevations. Drier air moves in for Thursday and Friday, but it looks like the atmosphere will continue to have enough moisture for some cloud cover that next couple of days.

Moisture out in front of the next trough began to impact the area last night and dropped a skiff to 1″ of snow. The snow showers will continue this morning from orographic lift. This afternoon the snowfall will largely be driven by convection which will make it a bit harder to predict amounts and locations for accumulations. Tonight the flow will turn southwesterly as the approaching trough moves closer to Colorado. Accumulating snowfall will last through Wednesday, but with relatively modest totals ranging from 4 to 7 inches. Thursday and Friday look to be dry with filtered sunshine.

Fog has set up in the valley bottoms this morning but should burn off by mid-morning. A few orographic flurries, from a northwest flow, will linger this morning as well but should dissipate early in the day leaving the area under partly cloudy skies. Temperatures are running a bit cooler than seasonal norms and generally at 11,000′ locations will struggle to reach the freezing mark. Tonight clouds look to be on the increase with several small waves of energy passing by on Tuesday and Tuesday night ahead of the next trough which is set to arrive on Wednesday. There is the potential for a little refresh in riding conditions on Tuesday night and Wednesday but models are not predicting anything major at this time.

There is a spinny thing down south, doing its thing by spinning and hanging out south of us. That spinny thing can also be called a closed low if you want to sound smarter. It’s going to keep spinning and pulling moisture through southern Colorado and up to our area in Central Colorado. Winds remain light and any snow that develops will mostly come from the storms own energy creating lift, as well as convection. This all could add up to some variable snow totals for us depending on how and where those convective cells set up and just how much moisture gets pulled into our area. 2 to 4” of snow would be the best average to put out there. Just remember, some places may get skunked and some could exceed with this setup. I’m sorry if the spinny thing throws a skunk at your doorstep.

Dry air will start moving in Sunday night and Monday is setting up to really be a beautiful one! Definitely a call in sick kind of beautiful day. I mean, if a skunk was hanging out at your doorstep, you might just feel a little sick right? Moisture starts moving in on Tuesday with the potential for some very light snow in the afternoon. The next storm looks to arrive on Wednesday and we’ll have to wait and see what kind of snow is associated with that storm.

Colorado is sitting under a large low-pressure trough with our forecast area seeing a break in storms on Saturday. Cloud cover will be moving between mostly to partly cloudy. As moisture drys out a bit today and we may even get lucky and see some Sun. Winds became light overnight and are forecasted to stay that way into Sunday.

A closed low forms over Utah Saturday night and moves over Southern Colorado on Sunday. We’ll remain under light winds and see that wind direction becoming south and eventually east on Sunday. Most of the snow associated with this closed low looks to be to our south and east. If the storms lift increases over our area we could see a little better snow accumulation, otherwise, we’re only looking at a couple of inches of new snow.

Dry weather moves in for Monday under northwesterly flow. Then by Wednesday, the next low-pressure trough looks to be moving over Colorado and bringing a return to unsettled weather.

Low temperatures are not as low as we forecasted yesterday, but cold air is still working its way into Colorado. Mountain temperatures will see a small increase today, then continue to fall into Saturday. An elongated low-pressure trough has increased winds from the SW and we’ll see those winds continue through Friday before tapering off overnight and becoming northerly. Snowfall looks to start up this afternoon. Unfortunately its nothing too impressive. The old 1 to 3” forecast looks about right for this afternoon. Snow showers look to decrease after midnight and any remaining showers look light going into Saturday morning.

The weather is looking pretty good for those GT racers starting off at midnight for their journey to Aspen. Rumor has it that Emma and Hannah are going to lead the pack to take first tracks on Star Pass, in the couple inches of fresh. Otherwise, with the current forecast showing tapering wind speeds overnight and only light to no snow showers after midnight, it’s looking like everyone should have a great ski to Aspen!

Unsettled weather remains for the weekend with another pulse of snow Saturday night into Sunday. Then the weather will dry out to start off next week.

My previous third eye sunburn has now been burned into a unibrow. The hot weather continues for Thursday. 11,000ft temperatures again had a marginal refreeze last night and will be quick to increase this morning. High clouds are passing over Utah this morning and just nosing into northern Colorado. The morning looks to start off clear, then we too should see our share of high clouds moving in and creating overcast to partly cloudy sky as they pass. There is a chance that the main group of clouds will stay just to our north.

A cold front moving into Colorado tonight will start off a decreasing temperature trend that will take us into the weekend. A low-pressure system then brings moisture into the area on Friday with increasing clouds and 1 to 4 inches of snow on average. Most of the snow will be to our north but we should still see a small refresh. Unsettled weather takes us into the weekend.

Grand Travers weather for Friday Night into Saturday: Recent model runs have pushed the timing of snow showers back a few hours. Now snow looks to develop midday Friday and last into the early evening. Point forecasts are currently showing 2-4” of snow for the Friends Hut area. A mostly cloudy sky will block out the moon so don’t count on the extra light. Low temperatures on Saturday morning for 11,000ft look to be in the mid to upper teens. Westerly winds could be blustery in the alpine exposed sections of the course too. We’ll take one last update and nail down more numbers tomorrow morning.

The third eye that is burned into the patch of my forehead, between where my sunglasses sit and the underside of my hat, tells me that the sun is strong and the temperatures are hot hot hot! We’ll again see some high thin clouds pass overhead today, while temperatures will climb a few degrees warmer than yesterday. Mountain temperatures last night just dipped down to the freezing mark so they are set to jump up today. Southwest winds increased slightly last night and will continue to average 15 to 25 MPH up in the alpine today.

Thursday looks to be another beautifully sunny day. High temperatures look to get capped a couple of degrees colder. Then by Thursday night into Friday, we’ll see a cold front moving through and a small storm setting up for Friday. Clouds will increase for Friday, a couple of inches of snow looks to accumulate and temperatures will see a nice drop after the cold front. Grand Travers weather currently looks to start out under cloudy sky on Friday night with low temperatures in the upper teens on Saturday Morning. Winds will have seen an increase on Friday, but they look to decrees a couple of notches by Friday Night. Sure things will still be blustery on Star Pass. If there is snowfall Friday night it should be very light. This is a quick look at the GT weather. We’ll look more into it tomorrow. Unsettled weather remains in place for the weekend.
