Another moist pulse under Northwest flow will drop a couple more inches of snow this morning followed by a short lull this afternoon. A significant shortwave slides into Colorado this evening into Wednesday, with a jet streak nosing into north/central Colorado tonight bringing gusty winds. Models are indicating the brunt of the action stays north of I-70, but this is the type of pattern where we might see a few inches in town and get surprised by a foot at Schofield or Kebler Pass. Fingers are crossed, snow dance moves unleashed. By Thursday, the high pressure ridge amplifies, driving the storm track north and east, bringing warmer and dry weather into the weekend.

Northwest flow has set up over northern Colorado where several disturbances will impact that area over the next few days. We’ll be more on the fringe of these weather systems but should still see snowfall during this period. This snowfall will mostly be west of Crested Butte due to westerly and northwesterly orographic lift. Things are not looking so good after Wednesday so let’s not talk about that yet. I’m just hoping that February lives up to its name and brings us some bigger winter storms!

The southern Low Pressure System responsible for our resent snow has moved off for tacos in Western Mexico. We’ll see dry weather today with increased winds. Heading into next week, northwest flow will bring small disturbances to Northern Colorado. We’ll be on the fridge of this weather and will be hoping to eek out some orographic snowfall for Monday through Wednesday.

This Baja moisture has added a bit of spice into our forecast with continued upwelling of Pacific moisture into our area. Light snow should continue through midday before retreating southward. Winds and temperatures should stay similar to what we saw yesterday, light winds from the south, possibly switching to the N-NW later today with temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s. Looking ahead, a few more disturbances may give us a few inches here and there, but no major pattern change is expected over the next 7-14 days..

A wobbling low pressure system near Baja will surge moist Pacific air northward today and tonight before high pressure from the north pushes drier, but not colder air, back into the area tomorrow evening. That pesky ridge over the west coast of California attempts to entrench itself once again but small, fast moving disturbances may give a few inches early next week.

Moisture streaming in from the southwest ahead of a closed low will keep mid to upper level cloud cover overhead for most of the day, under mild and calm conditions. Moisture deepens on Friday as the low moves onshore. With the favorable dynamics staying south, and a relatively warm system, we aren’t looking at a homerun with this one, but hopefully a base hit with 3-7″ in the mountains by sunset on Saturday. Flow shifts to a dryer northwest direction on Saturday afternoon and pushes the moist air out to our south.

A weak disturbance passes to our north today, bringing a chance for an inch or two of snow under continued mild temperatures and some gusty winds. Thursday will be cloudy and warm as transient and weak upper-level ridge builds. We are happy to escort January out the door, but it might be leaving with a fight. A moisture-rich closed low moves across Arizona on Friday into Saturday. Models are currently showing favored snowfall for Southern Colorado, but those closed lows can wobble around like a drunk guy at the Talk of the Town. Lets hope it stumbles closer to the Elk Mountains.

A few mountain weather stations did not dip below freezing last night with high pressure holding dry, warm air over Colorado. A low pressure system originating from the subtropics will try and fight through the ridge today, feeding moisture and continued warm temperatures, as it is deflected northwards by the ridge. Atmospheric temperatures look unfavorable for any real snowfall today. The southern Jet arrives tonight, accelerating the system eastward and improving snowfall dynamics , but only enough to wring out a couple of inches by Wednesday evening. A complex weather pattern is developing later in the week, with several circulation patterns arriving from the south. Stay tuned.

There could be a sighting of a collage kid walking around in shorts and a t-shirt today Yep, its going to be warm with relatively calm winds. The current weather pattern isn’t favorable for cold weather or snow in the coming weak. Tomorrow we’ll see increased cloudiness and slightly colder temperatures and maybe a couple inches of snow for northern Colorado by Wednesday. You best just enjoy the nice weather today.

Well if it isn’t going to be snowy, at least it will be warm. We’ll see increasing high temperatures over the next few days with colder temps in the valleys due to inversions. There are a couple small storms late this week that will try to knock the socks of the current dry weather. These storms are going to need all the help they can to make anything happen, so you best be doing your daily snow dance.
