In the AM, snowpack was noisy but relatively stubborn. Progressed to reactive w/ numerous .5 SS running on 1/9 MFcr. about 10-20cm down. At 1500 snowpack turned touchy. Two avalanches, both SS-ASc-R2-D1, failing on MF Basal Layer about 5-10cm’s above ground.
Persistent Slab went from Unreactive to Touchy, afternoon hazard Considerable. Afternoon hazard increased drastically during a small time period.
Weather: OVC, Calm morning w/ S-1, Strong West winds started kicking ~ 12:00 with snow increasing to S-5 by 1300, pm H2D 6″w 0.5″H2O; by 1600 Hst 8″ w 0.9″ H2O.
Snowpack: Variable HS throughout traveled terrain. ~35cm on entrances to 90cm on shaded left sides and loaded zones. MFcr distribution also variable and sandwiched between 4F-F hardness, No Slab present, generally an uncohesive pack with mixed crust layers.
