Wind slabs in isloated open areas above and near treeline

In the Backcountry

Limited observations are keeping our confidence low. Most of the recent snowfall either fell on ground or old snow and the snowfall amounts were widely variable. Reports of moderate to strong winds were reported from higher elevation ridgetops which transported new snow on to easterly aspects above treeline. These newly formed wind slabs could have unstable potential depending on the bedsurface. Watch for isolated slabs to be reactive to skier triggering at higher elevations.

Travel Advisory

Pay attention to the snow surface to gather clues of wind loading. Expect variable conditions and natural hazards especially at lower elevations or the bottom of your run.
